Notes from the Town Hall Meeting
Thursday 4 September

(including slides of presentation)

At the August 27th Town Hall Meeting, Dr. John Byrne from the Centre of Energy and Environmental Policy (CEEP) spoke about the importance of balancing energy supply with the environment, based on quantified science that humans contribute to Global Warming. It has also been quantified that we can, at a local level, reduce the amount of emissions we release into the environment and thus save dollars and reduce the warming effect. One of the principal conclusions of Dr. Byrne's presentation highlighted that the fastest way to reduce carbon emissions at the lowest cost is to create a society that is focused on energy conservation and efficiency.

In keeping with these indisputable facts, Andrew Vaucrosson, President of Greenrock, gave a presentation at the September 4th Town Hall Meeting about ways we can conserve energy in Bermuda.

In this presentation, he discussed the following (click on questions to see presentation slides):

The purpose of these Town Hall meetings is for people to listen and ask questions.

Bermuda is at an important crossroad when it comes to the creation of a realistic and effective Energy Plan. Presently, the Government is gathering ideas and educating the community about energy-related issues. This Energy Plan is going to affect everyone, so this is a chance for you to learn more about what you can do and how the community, corporations and the Government can work together to make meaningful change in Bermuda. Government alone is not going to solve this issue. Rather, a community-based effort needs to be in place to help break our dependency on foreign oil as a source for energy production.
