The Greenrock School Roadshow
Inspiring the minds of our youth
In a recent survey by Evergreen in Canada, 90 per cent of respondents said that student environmental awareness increased on “green school” grounds and that kids became more enthusiastic about learning.
Are you interesting in your school becoming a green school? The Greenrock School Roadshow is debuting in September 2008. Restructured and expanded from Greenrock’s Global Warming School Roadshow of 2006-2007, this new program provides a comprehensive approach to how to make a school “green”.
The main goals of the new roadshow are to:
-
reach out to the people involved in our local schools – students, teachers, parents and custodians.
-
use a community-based approach to help build a better understanding of what sustainable development is and what it means for Bermuda.
-
demonstrate how individuals who make simple, sustainable lifestyle choices can create a “ripple effect”.
-
discuss the growing economic opportunities associated with sustainable development, which is touted as the industrial revolution for the 21st century.
-
share examples of how meaningful change in other parts of the world could easily be replicated in Bermuda.
-
provide an action plan for making a school “green”.
Greenrock hopes to educate and inspire our youth about sustainable development in Bermuda and show them how to make sustainable lifestyle choices. At the same time, we will use this opportunity to encourage discussion and action around initiating a green school project within each school, supported by the students, faculty, custodians, parents and school trustees.
In order to make the Greenrock School Roadshow successful, Greenrock is consulting with a number of stakeholders to ensure the accuracy, meaningfulness and local relevance of the programme, including:
-
local waste management experts
-
foreign renewable energy experts
-
local renewable energy businesses
-
local architects and engineers
-
foreign sustainable development builders and planners
-
various government agencies
-
local environmental and natural sciences groups
-
various NGOs
