Bermuda's New Recycling Centre has its official opening on Monday April 2nd.
Keep an eye out for the articles and advertisements regarding this great achievement by the Ministry of Works and Engineering (W&E).
When Greenrock began in 2003, our primary focus was encouraging people to recycle. At that time though, the small processing plant and outdated machinery was unable to handle the volume of material collected island wide.
This new Centre has the capacity to process all of the island's glass and cans. All residents and businesses can now participate fully and be confident in Bermuda's Recycling Program.
Greenrock has been asked by W&E to pass along your feedback regarding both recycling in Bermuda and their new awareness campaign. So please email us at

Southlands Tunnel Vigil
A demonstration was held by B.E.S.T on March 20, 2007 at the proposed Southlands hotel site in an effort to show the scale of the project in terms that everyone can understand. Protesters held signs showing the points of entry and exit for the proposed tunnel on South Shore.
See the video of the event with comments from some of the people who were there.
Land Use Planning Framework and Special Development Orders – Greenrock’s Opinion
Summary
A special development order (SDO) is a form of planning permission that is granted by the Minister of the Environment instead of the Development Applications Board. The approval can be for in principle or for final approval.
The biggest differentiating factor of an SDO is that the public process that is set up under the Development and Planning Act 1974 (“the Act”) is circumvented. Sometimes the right to object is removed all together, and the right of appeal granted under the Act either does not apply at all to SDOs or only in a limited fashion. The result is that an SDO which is granted by the Minister may only be reviewable by the Courts under a process known as judicial review.
"Members in the House of
Assembly from both political parties are showing what may be a
bipartisan willingness to work on the issue of global warming."
A video produced by marketing communications company Dana Communications is available on the web which shows some detail of the scale and concept of the Southlands development. In particular it shows some of the existing natural formations before showing what is planned to replace them.
Greenrock founder and president Erin Moran recently gave an interview for the Mid Ocean News in which she talks about Greenrock's beginnings, and it's current role and direction in the community. It's available on the Royal Gazette web site or here in pdf format.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the AGM on Tues. Sept 26th. You can download the presentations from the meeting here in pdf format. Greenrock's Annual Report will be posted here soon.
Government

Do you oppose this plan? If so, please write to the
Premier, your local MP, the Minister of Health and Family
Services, the Bermuda Hospitals Board, the Sustainable Development
Unit, the Sustainable Development Round Table, the Leader
