recyclenew.gifRecyling in Bermuda

Some quick facts

In Bermuda we have a waste-to-energy plant which makes electricity from burning waste. At the moment we do not have paper or plastic recycling as these products have high energy content and we are able to make electricity from them.

Bermuda is focusing on T.A.G. recycling which stands for Tin, Aluminium and Glass. These materials do not burn in the waste to energy plant and in fact reduce its efficiency and can in fact help it to break down.

Clean, quiet and comfortable

It’s finally here: the ELECTRIC bike! Gone are the loud engine, exhaust fumes and muffler burns.  The EVT range of bikes provides a silent, exhaust free ride suited to Bermuda’s roads.  A smooth, silent ride and particularly enjoyable knowing that it is noise free and emissions free, too!  If everyone had an electric bike, our roads would become much quieter.

newrecycle.pngRecycle Bermuda!

Recycling is an integral part of Bermuda’s waste management that helps our facilities work efficiently as well as reducing our impact on the environment.  Our recycling programme saves natural resources, conserves energy and improves the efficiency of our waste-to-energy incinerator.

In order to meet Bermuda’s current and future recycling needs, the Ministry of Works and Engineering has built a new state of the art Recycling Centre located at the Government Quarry Depot in Hamilton Parish.  This new facility opened on April 2nd and will be processing tin, aluminium and glass containers - T.A.G. The tin and aluminium will be baled and shipped overseas for recycling, whereas the glass will be crushed and used on island.

Wind power consumes no fuel for continuing operation, and has no emissions directly related to electricity production.  Because it uses energy already present in the atmosphere, and can displace fossil-fuel generated electricity, with its accompanying CO2 emissions, wind power mitigates Global Warming.

Home Compost BinBiodegradables & Composting

Return to the soil

Backyard composting is a process that allows you to decompose some of your table scraps and yard waste.  This is done by a layering process so everything decays into fertile humus (or new soil).

Composting at home reduces your personal volume of trash, conserves water, increases plant growth and replaces the need for harsh chemical fertilizers and pesticides. It is a fun and simple activity that allows you to do something for the part of the Earth you live in everyday: your own backyard!
