Occupation? I am a commercial litigation partner at the law firm Appleby.
What motivates you out of bed in the mornings?
What gets me out of bed every day is Miranda, my one year old irrepressible daughter, well, Miranda and a cup of coffee! Twenty years ago when I was at university the fact that the environment, economy and security were all intertwined and interdependent on a global and national level was well understood. However, in 2007 it seems that sustainable development is still not being given the attention deserved at policy level and the concept is not well understood at a grassroots level.
What would you like to see change in your lifetime?
In my lifetime I would like to see everybody becoming aware of the importance of the environment to their quality of life, their livelihoods and their security. It is also important not to be overwhelmed by the challenge - it is the small things that we can do which will make the collective difference.
Why should we care about Bermuda's development?
We are currently facing a time of immense challenge to our way of life and I want to do all we can to provide us with the tools to meet them. The responsibility is on my generation to ensure we do not sacrifice the future for short term expediency. In short, we should care about sustainable development so that our children and their children can not only afford to live in Bermuda - they will want to!
