There are many ways business in Bermuda can support Earth Hour, from turning out the lights in buildings on the night through to communicating Earth Hour messaging to customers, tenants, partners and clients, to contributing financially by donating to Greenrock.
Encourage staff to come out with their family to join Greenrock and others at Pier 6 Shed on Front Street from 7 to 10 pm. Light refreshments and entertainment will provided. And watch parts of Hamilton go dark.
The following information explains various levels of commitment to Earth Hour. If you would like further information, email info@greenrock.org.
Turn out lights at 8:30pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010. Turn out the lights in your buildings, facilities and signage for one hour at 8:30pm. To save on staff, use a timer to help switch things on and off. For larger buildings, facilities and building managers need to manage the logistics of switching off non-essential lighting for Earth Hour in and around your properties.
Communicate Earth Hour to tenants. For leased properties, building owners need to communicate with tenants regarding turning their lights off for one hour for Earth Hour. Contact Greenrock – 747-ROCK (7625) or info@greenrock.org – for a supply of postcards that you can hand out, or place EH09 nylon non-adhesive window decals on display on store fronts or door entrances. Download a PDF of our e-flyer (330 kb) that you can print or send out by email.
Communicate Earth Hour to partners, clients, suppliers and other organisations your business works with on a regular basis.
Communicate Earth Hour to your staff. Business support for Earth Hour is about every level of your organisation becoming involved, from the CEO and Board members through to administrative staff. Communicate Earth Hour to all staff using email and other newsletters, intranet, SMS, website, staff associations and committees. Encourage staff, colleagues and their families to take part in Earth Hour on March 27 and commit to long-term emissions reductions both in the workplace and at home.
Communicate long-term Earth Hour goals. Earth Hour is not just about one hour, it’s about making long-term changes to the way we use electricity both in the workplace and at home. When communicating with tenants, customers, other offices and staff, make sure you include secondary messaging regarding emissions reductions (especially lighting).
Communicate Earth Hour to your customers. Communicate Earth Hour to your customers, encouraging them to take part in Earth Hour and commit to long-term emissions reductions. Restaurant, bar and club owners can create a special atmosphere with candles. Let customers who are making reservations know that you will be participating in Earth Hour during that time.
