Take Action

What you can do

Climate change is already affecting habitats, wildlife and people, but we can all take steps to mitigate its damaging effects. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions by increasing the use of energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy resources, like wind and solar power, are necessary steps in the effort to slow climate change.

Actions to slow climate change are available, and everyone has a role to play in implementing them at all levels of society. For example, just walking or riding a bike can reduce emissions by 20 pounds for every gallon of gasoline used.

Bermuda’s affluence has afforded us the luxury of relying solely on fossil fuels for the production of electricity. However, in recent years this practice has proven unsustainable from both an economic and a social perspective.

More and more research is showing that our environment is also suffering from this long-term practice. If Bermuda truly wants to maintain its natural beauty, and a healthy environment, we need to start taking responsibility for our actions and begin embracing more sustainable lifestyle choices. The impacts of climate change are too great to ignore – we must do everything in our power to protect our future.

During Earth Hour on March 27: It’s as simple as the flick of a switch. Turn off your lights and any other unnecessary power for one hour – show that, by working together, each of us can have a positive impact in the fight against climate change. Take it a step further by telling your friends, family, neighbours and coworkers about Earth Hour. Hold an Earth Hour party!    Download Participation Package - share it with others

Volunteer! It doesn’t have to be a major time commitment and it doesn’t cost a thing. To find out more about volunteering for Earth Hour, email volunteers@greenrock.org or call 747-7625.
